Overall there is no excuse for crappy remastering when there is 24 bit remastering available. All three Whitesnake cds play nice and loud.
But it needs to be remastered better. I own the japanese shm cd version and the recording is clean but not loud enough.
Def Leppard "High 'N' Dry" is a great cd. Like the Whitesnake cds "Slide It In", Self Titled cd and "Slip Of The Tongue".
The problem with japanese shm remastered cds is they like to bass up the recording which makes volume level low. There are better remastered shm cds from japan that are not recorded with more bass.
I buy mostly Japan import cds of the newer releases and this Def Leppard title does not even play half as loud as the newer titles. Hopefully in the future there will be a 24 bit remastered "High 'N' Dry" cd.
Classic "bringing on the heartbreak" and Lady Strange and Mirror, Mirror Rock. My favorite album. A Must have for Def Lep fans. I could listen to this one over and over. Buy it.

I had this on vinyl when I was a kid and recently upgraded to disc for old time sake. - You probably don't, but this will bring it all back to you. I forgot how good this stuff was. Remember the days when a good single could actually have a guitar solo. The deep cuts are just as good as the obvious ones - I particularly dig Lady Strange. Hard rock ear candy.
Leppard, if your listening, go back to your beginning and rock the world again.On a side note, compare the guitar work on this album to the stuff you hear today, no comparison, where has all the talent gone. They were never able to duplicate this level of musicianship again, (although Pyromania remains the most popular Leppard release due to 2-3 songs that were big hits).
Having said that, in my opinion, High N' Dry is one of the best rock albums of all time. I was 15 when this album came out, so that tells you how long I have been listening to rock music.
This is raw def leppard at their musically creative best. That's right ALL TIME.
Why, because EVERY single song is a masterpiece of duel axe slinging riffs and grinds with great vocals that make you want to crank it and listen to it again and again. This is the kind of stuff that came out of the 80's metal explosion and what is sorely lacking in today's rock.
So sad.
